silver card visa

Some real estate groups have proposed something called a silver card visa--this would be like a permanent tourist card visa. It would go to people who want to retire here on money they bring here. I think that's a great idea, and I'd give them a path to citizenship as well.

Educated, well-off retirees--sure beats day laborers with less than a high school education.

ehkzu you are correct, when a no brainer proposal like the silver card is introduced, instead of immediate passage, it gets bogged down in a debate between the right and left. look at this idiots comments to the prop "The idea that you could admit lots of old people and somehow not create social costs, especially health care costs, is a fantasy," said Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, a think tank that advocates lower levels of immigration. Krikorian also said that the goal of U.S. immigration policy is not to sell more real estate, but to bring people into the fabric of American life. "Taking people in from abroad to live here is supposed to create new Americans," he said. "That's not what this (silver card) program would do."

once again we miss the boat..."Meanwhile, thousands of American citizens spend much of their retirement in other countries — such as Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama — where they are welcomed with open arms."...and the giant sucking sound continue!
