Retired Supreme Court justice Sandra Day O'Connor has joined a nationwide campaign to persuade states to end the innately corrupting practice of electing judges. Read about it here (requires free registration to the New York Times).
District attorneys should come next. Put them all on a merit system.
And while we're at it, how about having to pass a Civil Service exam before you can run for Congress or the presidency? That would weed out some of them, I'm sure.
